Knowing about HCG Hormone and Pregnancy

The Human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormone is commonly known, as the HCG. The hormone is generally secreted in the pregnant women. The hormone is secreted by the placenta cells, that nourish the egg after fertilization and attaches to the wall of the uterus. The hormone is detected by performing the urine test of pregnant women.

HCG Hormone and Pregnancy

The levels of this hormone are detected by conducting a blood test within 11 days of conception. Generally this hormone doubles its levels every 72 hours, and it reaches its maximum level at around 8 – 11 weeks of pregnancy, and then starts declining for the rest of the pregnancy.

Generally if, the pregnancy is normal, then the rise in the HCG level doubles in the first 48 to 72 hours, and then it doubles every 96 hours. Pregnant women should not give much emphasis to the hCG number as it has nothing to do with the normal development of the fetus.  The USG reports are the correct data of the perfect growth of your baby. If the presence of the hormone is less than 5 mlU/ ml, then the pregnancy test comes out to be negative, and anything above 25 mlU/ ml is a positive result for pregnancy test.

The salient feature of the hormone is that it reduces the appetite and induces the burning of fat for getting the required amount of energy. When a person is on a HCG diet, he takes generally 500 calories of food per day and has only unprocessed food and organic food. This diet needs to be followed a minimum of 45 days to lose oodles of weight. But before jumping into such crash dieting, you must consider the side effects and the risk of getting into under nourished body mode. So, to lose weight exercise and a balanced diet are the only permanent solutions. Today HCG injections are also getting popular. But it is most advisable to get the professional advice before trying them out.
